Tested with a very early version 303 on regular vista install. Run.exe to install - once installed, right click on the icon, and select to run as WinXP SP2, 'run as administrator' and hit 'ok' Using a pikey ebay cable, download the drivers from autonostics.com - choose the second version. Download, unrar Plug the cable in, and search for the drivers manually. Once located the cable will be installed.
Once it's installed properly, you will need to: a) remember which USB port it's plugged into - you'll always need to use this one b) load 'System' from control panel (use the classic view) then Device manager & locate the USB- Serial field. Edit the port properties, choose the advanced field & select a COM port from 1-4 that is not 'in use' hit OK, and go plug it into your car to test it out - remembering what COM port you chose (set this in the options of vag-com) easy peasy.
Can anyone suggest a seller or cable to buy on ebay? I also have vista and need vag com (will prob buy license) many thanks If you still have not bought VAG-COM and intend to buy the 'full function' - ie legal and licensed version then try Ilexa or Gendan - that would be www.onboarddiagnostics.co.uk or www.gendan.co.uk. Personally, if you intend to stick with VAG cars I'd do as I did and stick to buying the USB+CAN version, but maybe that is the only version available from the smarter VAG-COM outlets like Ilexa. Maybe if you don't need all the functions that VAG-COM offers then you might consider some of the self contained tools that Gendan and others sell. As Mark said, the driver wonte be installed correctly mate.
This is how I have done it: Run.exe to install – (once installed, right click on the icon, and select to run as WinXP SP2, 'run as administrator' and hit 'ok') system device manager, then plug the cable in. When you plug the cable in you will see it pop up in device manager, it will try to auto install the driver for it which you don’t want. You need to stop it installing the driver by right clicking on it and select ‘install driver manually’ and choose the folder you put on the desktop. Once located the cable will be installed.
Once it's installed properly, you will need to: a) remember which USB port it's plugged into - you'll always need to use this one b) load 'System' from control panel (use the classic view) then Device manager & locate the USB- Serial field. Edit the port properties, choose the advanced field & select a COM port from 1-4 that is not 'in use'.
My laptop screen expired so I bought a new laptop. (I got one with Vista Business installed as it came with an XP Pro downgrade disc. However, I thought I'd give vista a shot.) I've tried the above and I could not get my computer to recognise the driver no matter what I tried. I let the computer try going online to find a driver - and lo and behold it did! All installed, Vag-Com found the cable on Com3, but it won't find any controllers in Vag-Com. I tried unisettings with the cable - and it works fine.
It was reporting the serial number of my ecu. Any thoughts? And you using this (driver? Does seam like a driver problem to me. Yes, using that one. How many files do you have showing when you look at the driver?
I'm well pissed off now. I've just been out with a long extension and set up my old laptop with a monitor in the car. Plugged all in, went into Vag-Com. No functionality because I deregistered it in expectation of getting a new code from Uwe. But I can't get a new code because I can't get a serial number up on my new install. John - thanks for your input. SORTED!:cartman: Thanks to the guide Lee posted.
Basically, Vag-Com was reporting the cable on Com3 when it wasn't. I forced the USB serial port to become Com1 - then tried (not in car) and Vag-com wasn't reporting finding the cable on any port. However, thanks the additional blue writing in the guide, I went and tried it in the car on Com1 and bingo.:cartman: Now to get it re-registered with Ross-Rech. Thanks everyone!:) Happy days mate:D ok I've seen VAG-COM Release 504-1 also, is this a newer one still? Yea, I believe it is newer again and I think they is another newer version too. Ok been pulling my hair out for hours now:( got a lappy with vista on it and the ebay cable:), installed the drivers changed com ports ect, got vagcom 409.1s. Vag com reports the cable being present and ok, the odbii test reports its a compattable odbii interface and the program should work fine, however no matter what modual i select it comes back with ' No responce from controller ' ive tryed different drives and com port settings??
All with the same result, i had this cable on a xp laptop before and it worked fine all the time??? If you scan just the engine then you can clear the DTC's with the shareware version doing a full scan wont allow you to clear all codes at onces so with the shareware you need to go through one section at a time and clear think thats right anyway Cracks arent allowed or advertised on this forum so you wont be answered on that part of the post I have vag com installed on my laptop, i have the usb to serial cable, and have installed the driver.
I plug it in to the cupra as an engine man light has come on and then do a full scan. Once its done that what do i do???? Ive tried to erase all DTCs but it then says about a registry, what the hell is this? I called a mate and he says i need a crack code. Anyone know where to find this and what to do next????? Please help ive had a bloody bad day, lost my job, skint and im thirsty. Hey you probably get clueless nobodys like me here all the time but its worth a shot, im running windows vista, vag-com 311-2 with a elm 323 obd2 cable( usb to obd2 ), im running vag-com in admistrator and compatability mode xp sp2.
Downloaded the drivers as per instructions earlier in the thread but it keeps saying im upto date, everytime i change the port it reads ' interface status: 5-modem, no matter what port i set it too it reads the same message and all the other ports are inaccessible. Any help would be appreciated guys. Hey, I just bought this: Ive installed the drivers ok and everything, but nothing on the software works.
Im running it on vista and whenever I click on something like '01 Engine' it comes up with 'vagcom has stopped working' and then closes down.my friend has exactly the same version but a lot of his functions work on the program:S Any ideas? Has anyone managed to install and register this on Windows 7 32-bit yet? I want to buy it but I don't fancy downgrading for it.
I tried running the shareware version through an XP vmware image and that worked. Have considered having a Windows XP usb stick and booting XP off that to save any compatibility issues. It'll be slow to boot but should be fine once up and running.
If you try to register VAG-COM will it base the code off the hardware or does it include the OS? Can you muck about with OSs after you've got a reg code I don't know how it works.). A question.if i have the 805 version of VAG COM.Can i use the cable that Ecs sells???:funk:or i have to buy the Ross Tech???:@ Just having the software doesn't get you anywhere, actually everybody is free to grab the current version from our website for free. However, it won't work until being used with proper interface hardware which is being sold by our authorized distributors around the world.
Or course you can always go the 3rd parts route and use the old versions 311/409, but you should keep this in mind. Lets be realistic, version 409 was released in September 2004.
At that time nobody was aware how Vista and Windows 7 would actually work and what to look for when programming for those operating systems. That is exactly why we do not provide any support for these versions of VAG-COM on the mentioned operating systems.;) You will surely notice that all software works like that, but if you come across one that has programmers who are mind readers and can see the future before its here, feel free to refer them to us for a potential job offer.:D Again, if you are using a current version of VCDS (that would be Release 908 at the moment) these are fully compatible to Windows Vista and Windows 7. The above restrictions only apply to old/outdated versions of the software. BTW: The registration page says. Response time: All activation requests must be processed by a human being. Assuming your data is correct and verifiable, your Activation should be sent to you via e-mail no later the end of the next business day.
Note: 'end of day' can be late in the evening sometimes. Lets be realistic, version 409 was released in September 2004. BTW: The registration page says. I understand it is a very old version of the software but the way the website is worded suggests the software doesn't work on Vista or XP. Not that it 'may' not work or hasn't been tested on them. Obviously the shareware version is helpful for you to find out yourself:funk: The latest versions although a nice idea are far out of my price range. Not to find out why on earth my new card has been declined. Few questions here hoping i explain well enough for someone to understand:) Basically I'm trying to run vag com on my vista laptop, j have followed the well written guide on here but I'm still having a few problems. When in device manager I can find the USB serial section but under advance I can't find anywhere to manually change com ports.
Vagcom 409.1 Download
Also, the autonostics website, I can't for love nor money find the drivers, the links here seem to take me to the site, but nowhere I can download the drivers. When linking the laptop to the car it does a test and says interface found, using com port 3. When trying to do a scan it throws up a controller not responding error?
ReAding through this guide seems to point at drivers being icorrect but as I said cNt get them from autonostics? Hope this makes sense, thanks in advance. Oh and car is a fr tdi 05 Leon. Hey Guys need some help, just got VCDS lite and purchased a Cable from one of Ross-Tech's UK suppliers, ive plugged it into my laptop (Vista) and Windows has installed two drivers through windows update. Now following Damiens steps of turning it into a COM port i can't do, i got into and find the Serial USB, then click advanced.
I then don't see an option to change to a COM port? Testing VCDS lite it finds the interface on COM3 but says Port Status: OK Interface Found!
Vag Com Release 409.1 Crack
Type: Serial Pass-Through Opto/Iso: No Ross-Tech Design: No Errors have been detected, communications will probably be unreliable. Help pleaseee:D EDIT!: Never mind, i am a complete retard! Found it on COM6, now changed to 1:). Does it matter that im using this on a vista laptop? Tried this on a few Win 7 machines, didn't manage to get it working. Did however come up with a suitable work around though; Download Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC (- Directly from Microsoft, and install.
Works as a standalone installer for Win 7 - Load that up and install Vag-Com on there. The other issue I had was that the D1.bin, D2.bin and D3.bin files kept removing themselves from C: Program Files VAG-COM, so I wrote the below batch script and stuck it on the desktop of the virtual machine.
It basically forces the files to constantly copy from C: to C: Program Files VAG-COM so even if they do get deleted, they are recreated again almost instantly. @ECHO OFF CD CLS:LOOP XCOPY /Y /R 'C: D1.bin' 'C: Program Files VAG-COM' XCOPY /Y /R 'C: D2.bin' 'C: Program Files VAG-COM' XCOPY /Y /R 'C: D3.bin' 'C: Program Files VAG-COM' ping -n 01 localhost NUL GOTO LOOP A bit of a botch to get it to work, but at least I got there in the end! EDIT; V.409.1.
