A loss against a friend can provide plenty of initiative to return to the main mode to strengthen your Digimon, but you'll need one block of free space on the memory card to save your progress. The most in-depth monster breeding simulator out there! Digimon World is just about the closest you'll ever get to the experience of actually 'owning' a virtual monster. You get to train your Digimon's stats, praise or scold him accordingly, feed him, treat his injuries and, of course, pit him into battles with other stray digimon on File Island. You don't directly control your 'mon, you shout orders from the sidelines - and whether it's actually intelligent enough to follow them is up to your training.

Exploring the island feels amazing, and the soundtrack is also top notch, though the game has more than a few glitches and sometimes the mechanics feel very cryptic (especially on the requirements of leveling your mon), but it's certainly one of my favorite games, and someone who likes Digimon shouldn't miss this.
